Stock Weather Today (8900, 9600, 9700)

Cost: Free as always, but if you like my work please consider making a donation so I can continue making themes.

Supported Device(s): Curve 8900, Tour 9600, Bold 9700

Theme Description: For Stock Weather Today I stuck to the stock look as much as possible, but also added a few very useful enhancements:
  • The icon in the top left is your 7th icon from your main applications screen and is intended to be used for your Weather app.
  • If you select the Time/Date area it will open your Clock.
  • I added a Today area with your 2 upcoming appointments and 2 new messages.
Note: If you don't have a weather application yet I recommend WeatherEye. You can download WeatherEye for free direct to your Blackberry at: http://blackberry.theweathernetwork.com/

Here are some screenshots, click on them to see them full size

Why not use the Today application in plazmic instead of fixing the icons on the screen? When you scroll over the mess or cal icons, the text appears and when not in use, the are hidden. That way if someone only uses lets say messages, then they will not have the unused calendar icon sitting on there homepage.

@ Anonymous,

I created a Today Plus (what you are describing) version for the 9000 and the first comment I got was asking for a Today version (like this theme), now I create this Today version for the 8900 and the first comment is you asking for a Today Plus version.

Haha, I can't win. Anyways yes, I plan on creating a Today version for the 9000 and a Today Plus version for the 8900.

Dylan - This is the #1 theme on my list.Freaking awesome! I just slip between this Stock Weather Todat Theme of yours and my 2nd favorite is the Android Theme which I have.

Btw, a small request. Is it possible to have a scroll effect of the docked icons below. Basically something like your Today Scroll with some 10 icons back and forth, keeping everthing else intact ofcourse! It would be awesome my friend!

I love one thing about this theme, you haven't changed the fonts and the font is user selectable!! which is great and I like it that way! Please always mae with default fonts, it would be great! God Bless!! I will await your response.

Thanks again my friend.

Thank you so much for this most elegant,
smart and awesome theme. After searching on the net for the longest time I finally found the theme that makes sense and is practical too. This has to be the #1
theme on the net. RIM should pick it as their default theme for the 8900.

This THEME ROCKS. I was wondering if you had any plans to or could possibly make one without the today entries. Basically just take out the calendar and messages sections. That would be perfect for me. I keep my kids on my wallpaper and like to be able to see them. And MAYBE possibly some smaller home screen icons? :)

I love the stock weather theme! I have been looking for this type of setup and no one ever came close. Great job and thank you! All I need to keep up with my busy life.

I have just two questions. Where is the phone Icon? How can I change the Icon on the top left of the screen?

Anonymous said...

The icon on the top left should be the 7th icon in your application list counting from left to right. The 7th icon would be your top left icon on home screen.

Hope that helps. Thanks

Anonymous said...

That helps! Thanks. Any recommendations for a weather app?

Free BBT said...

@ Anonymous, you don't like the Weather App I meantion and linked in the actual theme post?

R-Rizzo said...

@ Anonymous -- If your looking for a nice clean weather app that works well with this theme. You might try BBWeather -- I dont feel comfortable posting links in someone else's space w/o permission, so just google "tateu bbweather" it will be the first post.

Where is the phone icon?
Love the theme but would like the phone icon.

Hi
Is there any way to help me display the weather using weathereye?

I put it as my 7th icon, and set up my location but the weather is not being shown when it is highlighted.

Thanks

thank you thank you thank you....almost returned my curve II b/c no calendar on the home screen. (FYI blackberry sales guy is touting your greatness but gave me wrong website info). You saved comission for my sales guy. But how do I put the weather icon in the top left hand corner if it is only in my downloads and how do i change the font....

Thank you for this great theme, I have had this one for a while and it would definitely stay there if it would be with hidden Today feature. My company provides a 3rd party app for email integration (NotifyLink) so the message section for BB messages is mostly empty for me.
Any chance this will be coming?

I've had the 8900 for a week, tried a bunch of themes, and this one is my favorite so far. One little problem I have with the weather icon, however...

Text associated with the weather icon on the home/today screen does not get updated unless/until I hit the menu button (to bring up the full icon screen), then go back to the home/today screen. Know what I mean? Am I doing something wrong?

sublimnl said...

Hi, I love this theme, but have just a couple of small requests...

1. Can you put a semi-transparent layer under the top section (see the default Bold Theme for an example of this). This helps text visibility on light backgrounds. I have a background that is mostly white, so it is hard to see the time at a glance without having to select the center section first.

2. Is it possible to have my background show up on the menu screens as well?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Dear Dylan

WHAT A GREAT PAGE!!

I've just moved over from the 8800 to the Bold 9000 and REALLY miss my BB Dimension Zen theme with icons just down the left; it's a sober theme. Can you make EXACTLY the same theme for the Bold 9000, please?

Many thanks

This one is perfect. Can you make this for the bold please? Pretty please?

Anonymous said...

This theme is SICKK!!!!! I love it...

Any chance of adjusting it to show 4 calender dates?

email me hits_h@hotmail.com

Anonymous said...

The date format is English wise (mm/dd = 07/23) but if the theme is installed in a BB with dte format (dd/mm = 23/7) like in Italy, the calnedar in the home pages shows just the month and not the day (gg/07). how can I manage it without switching to english language?

Free BBT said...

@Anonymous,

That issue is only with Italian. For some reason RIM has not made their software support Italian yet. Hopefully they will soon but until they do there is no fix for that issue.

Anonymous said...

BBT - thanks for creating this theme its exactly what i have been looking for. For some reason the home screen continues to display a text message even after i have read it and after i deleted it - basically it wont go away would you have any idea why this is happening or have a possible solution?

@Anonymous,

The site I have the OTA files on is sometimes a little slow. Just try the link again and it should work. I just tried it and it did work for me.

A slight error on the 5.0 version running on a 9700 to report...

When you scroll the highlighting focus bar up/down over the Calendar text; it's fine over 'Calendar' itself and on the entry immediately below it - but the positioning/registration is off for the netry below that - it shows as halfway between the 1st and 2nd calendar entry. Can supply a screenshot if you'd like to see?

Best regards,
Martin

This is great. Any chance you could make better use of the real estate of the homescreen for the calendar and messages? Brill theme though :) thanks

Anonymous said...

Same request as Graham. Would be possible to have smaller font for the calendar and messages and increase the calendar to 4 lines and messages to 3 lines? Also would be nice if you can the hidden icons (BBM and calculator) like the Neo theme and also make the network and battery click-able.

Love this theme otherwise...

Hi

OTA download not working either!

Love this theme, but it seems that there's no notification icon on the home screen for SMS? Or am I missing something? LED flashes red for SMS, which is the only way I know that there's a message waiting.

Love this theme.

Had on my 8900, but now have a 9000, can we get a 9000 version? Happy to contribute. Just got your iNpired one which I'm using just now, like this one more though!

Good work

I just wanted to say thanks! I upgraded to a BB Curve 8900 from an 8310, and have been searching for a today theme for some months.
I don't remember how I found this site, but this is by far the best Today theme I have found. The bouncing icons when you roll over them I found cute.
I love the weather dock on the top, calender works great. If only text messages would show in the messaging (not the theme's problem, threaded SMS with OS 5).

As best of all, it's free. If you want a great Today theme that looks stock, but can customize, then this is what you want to use!

Thanks again!

Overall I am quite impressed with this theme, a very good job, and as several others have noted, the best part is that it is free... Just one question tho, and I may very well be missing something, but on my 8900 (OS ver.4.6.1.319) I no longer have a call log icon. This unfortunately makes the theme less than 100% usable. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated as otherwise, I think it is a fantastic theme, and I'd love to be able to use it!

Anonymous said...

please make this for blackberry curve 83xx, aka 4.5 software! been looking for a theme like this everywhere.

Mike said...

could you sen this theme too? killvminatti@yahoo.com OTA links not working.. thanks.

Anonymous said...

The Theme looks very good.
Please provide a "Desktop Method" link for download....
OTA Link says : This website does not exist!
Thanks,
Allen.
